Six Stages of Recovery
Recovery is a journey that unfolds in stages, each playing a vital role in achieving lasting sobriety.
Here are the six key stages of recovery:
Stage 1: Pre-Contemplation
In the first stage of recovery, individuals may not yet recognize their substance use as a problem. They may be in denial, believing that their alcohol or drug use is occasional and not causing serious harm. Since they have not yet faced major consequences, they may see no reason to change. Many in this stage consider themselves in control, often dismissing concerns from family or friends. We support individuals move beyond denial by creating awareness and offering guidance toward the next steps in their recovery journey.
Stage 2: Contemplation
In this stage, individuals begin to acknowledge that their substance use is a problem. They start thinking about making a change but may feel uncertain or unprepared to take action. While they are open to learning about addiction and its consequences, fear and self-doubt can hold them back from committing to recovery. This phase can last for a long time as they weigh the pros and cons of seeking support. We provide guidance and encouragement to support individuals move from contemplation to action, empowering them to take the next step toward lasting recovery.
